Where is the location of the Moon, Sun and Star Puzzle?

The door with the Moon, Sun and Star Puzzle is located at the top of the curved stairs that lead to the Rhodes Hill Care Center Central Hall. It’s near the Guard Office save room, which is the second Typewriter location in Resident Evil Requiem.

You’ll have to solve this puzzle early on in your RE9 playthrough. It takes place after the Wrenwood opening with Grace and Leon, and also happens after Leon’s first section at Rhodes Hill and Grace escaping from her encounter with The Girl.

How to get the Moon Quartz and the Puzzle Box Solution

You will find the Moon Quartz in the West Wing of the Rhodes Hill Care Center. You’ll obtain it after solving the Puzzle Box that’s located in the Chairman’s Office. To solve the Puzzle Box, you first need to interact with it so the cover opens, revealing buttons you can press and symbols next to them. Then press the buttons in the following order: Moon, Sun, Star, Moon.

Once you do that, the top part of the Puzzle Box will open and reveal the Moon Quartz, which you can add to your inventory.

If you’re wondering exactly how you get to the Chairman’s Office, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Obtain the West Wing Keycard, which you get after the cutscene that triggers when you enter the Medication Room for the first time. You can enter this area via the door in the Guard Office save room.
  2. Head to the West Wing and go to the Kitchen. Evade the Chef to get to the double doors at the end.
  3. Make your way to the Dining Room and go past the zombies eating on the table and enter the doors at the end.
  4. Head past the Filling Room and then take the stairs near the door which has a spinning handwheel on it that breaks off.
  5. On the upper floor enter the Bar & Lounge where the singing zombie is. Take a right turn and head down the corridor until you see a scale model of the Rhodes Hill Care Center. Opposite is the Chairman’s Office where you can get the Moon Quartz.

While you’re in the Chairman’s Office, make sure you also pick up the Unicorn Trinket Box that’s on a table by the door you entered in from. When you’re interacting with it, you can spin it round and press the button on the rear to open it and get the Red Jewel. You’ll need this item to place in the indent on the door that’s near where you first entered the West Wing. Doing so lets you enter the Parlor, which is where you can exchange Antique Coins to get upgrades like the Hip Pouch, which gives you more inventory space. Not only that, but in the Parlor you’ll also find a severed arm holding the East Wing Keycard. It’s under a table near the bar, and you’ll need this to continue searching for the Sun and Star Quartzes.

How to get the Sun Quartz and the Puzzle Box Solution

The Sun Quartz is found in the East Wing of the Rhodes Hill Care Center. You’ll obtain it after solving the Puzzle Box that’s located in the Lead Researcher’s Office. To solve the Puzzle Box, you must first use Corrosive liquid on the padlock to open it up and access the buttons you need to use to complete the puzzle. Press the buttons in the following order to solve the Sun Quartz Puzzle Box: Star, Sun, Moon, Sun.

If you’re not sure how to get to the Lead Researcher’s Room and where to find the Corrosive liquid, then here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Enter the East Wing using the keycard you found in the Parlor of the West Wing.
  2. In the East Wing Lobby, follow the path to your left and go through the Treatment and Examination Room.
  3. You’ll reach a path that leads to the Blood Lab, but before you get there head down the corridor on your right. This leads to the Waiting Room, which offers a shortcut to the East Wing Lobby, and also a set of stairs that takes you to an upper floor.
  4. At the top of the stairs directly in front of you is the Lead Researcher’s Office, which is where the Sun Quartz Puzzle Box is.
  5. A padlock has been used to lock it, so you need to venture out and take a left and head to the Conference Room. Before you get there you’ll come across a body on the floor with the ID Wristband (Level 1). You’ll need that to explore more of the East Wing, but before you can grab it, the horrifying blob-like Chunk enemy will emerge, blocking your path.
  6. The Chunk will chase after you, but it can’t get through small doorways. You can run away from it and try hiding in the area with the Lead Researcher’s Office, or run down the stairs and duck into one of the rooms there. The Chunk may give chase, but when it can’t get through a doorway it will back away, giving you an opportunity to dash back up the stairs and collect the ID Wristband (Level 1).
  7. Just a bit further along is the Conference Room where you’ll find the Corrosive needed to open the Sun Quartz Puzzle Box. Before you can get to it, you’ll have to fight a group of zombies, including a powerful enemy that makes a piercing shriek. This leaves Grace vulnerable and unable to do anything for a few seconds.
  8. Once you’ve defeated all the zombies in this area, head to where the shrieking zombie was. You’ll find the Corrosive on a counter there. Pick it up and head back to the Lead Researcher’s Office and use it to destroy the padlock on the Puzzle Box. Don’t worry about the Chunk, the enemy won’t be there anymore.

After you’ve destroyed the Puzzle Box’s padlock, use the Star, Sun, Moon, Sun combination to solve it. You will then be able to collect the Sun Quartz and a Leatherbound Notebook, which has a note in it entitled ‘Unlocking the Organ Transport Box’. The instructions on this note are important, and will play a crucial role in trying to find the Star Quartz, which is the third and final Quartz you’re after.

How to get the Star Quartz and the Puzzle Box Solution

The Puzzle Box for the Star Quartz is found in the East Wing of the Rhodes Hill Care Center. Specifically, the third and final Quartz is located in the Security Manager’s Office in the Isolation Ward. Unlike the other Puzzle Boxes though, you can’t solve this one on your own. You need to enlist the help of the mysterious girl who’s locked in a cell in the Medication Room. You’re introduced to her in a cutscene just before you get the West Wing Keycard.

This third and final section is the longest part of the Moon, Sun and Star puzzle, and there are a lot of items you’ll need to collect to solve the Star Quartz Puzzle Box. We’ll walk you through how to complete this section step-by-step below:

  1. Head to the West Wing. Past the Parlor and Kitchen is a door you can open with the ID Wristband (Level 1) that you picked up earlier by the Lead Researcher’s Office.

  2. The door you just unlocked will lead to the Custodian’s Office. Enter the room, and on the desk just by the Typewriter you’ll find a Wrench. Pick it up, then exit the room and head left to enter the Garage.

  3. In the Garage you’ll find the Organ Transport Box on the back of a truck. Collect it, and then start to head back. Before you can exit the Garage, a zombie driving a digger will start hurtling towards you. To escape, shoot at the driver’s cabin before the digger reaches you. Two shots should be enough – once to break the cabin’s glass and another to hit the zombie in the head.

  4. Next, you need to head to the other side of the West Wing, where you found the door with the spinning handwheel that broke off. Use the Wrench on it and you will now have access to the Cold Storage. In this area is an Artificial Heart that you need to pick up.

  5. You now need to go back to the West Wing. Be careful, as you may encounter Blister Head zombies in areas that you’re revisiting. Chunk will also be back and roaming some of the corridors. Nevertheless, head to the Examination Room, where you’ll find a body on the operating table and a computer next to it.

  6. The body on the operating table has missing organs. You need to place the Artificial Heart you found earlier inside the body, and also get the Artificial Lungs out of the Organ Transport Box. To obtain the latter, spin the box around and press the button on the rear to open a control panel. Use the instructions on the ‘Unlocking the Organ Transport Box’ note that you found in the Leatherbound Notebook to unlock it. This needs to be done in exactly the same order on the note, so first turn the circular knob to ‘Hand’, and then move the vertical switch so it’s in the middle. Next, on the smaller buttons which have numbers next to them, you need to turn the switch next to ‘5’ in the down position, and then the switch next to ‘2’ in the down position. Finally, turn the circular dial to ‘Auto’.

  7. Once you have placed the organs in the body, it will get up and slowly start chasing after you. Don’t worry about firing rounds at it; just stay out of its reach, and after a while it will fall to the ground and stop moving. You can then go up to it and collect the ID Wristband (Level 2).

  8. Now that you’ve got the ID Wristband (Level 2), you can head to the Isolation Ward of the East Wing. Here you’ll find the Security Manager’s Office, which is where the Puzzle Box for the Star Quartz is. Unfortunately, you can’t solve this yourself as the engravings are too scratched, but there are buttons labelled with braille. The solution for the puzzle does appear to be Star, Star, Moon, Sun, which you find out by interacting with a journal on the Security Manager’s desk.

  9. After examining the Puzzle Box, a cutscene is triggered where Grace figures out she needs the help of the girl that’s locked in the Medication Room. You’ll also get the ID Wristband (Level 3) that’s needed to open her cell. Head back to the Medication Room and use the wristband to open the cell and trigger another cutscene.

  10. Next, you’ll have to carry Emily to the Security Manager’s Office so she can solve the Puzzle Box. When you’re carrying Emily, Grace is limited to what she can do, and she can’t fire any weapons. Depending on what enemies you’ve cleared so far, the route from the Medication Room to the Security Manager’s Office could have enemies you need to deal with. Luckily, you can drop Emily off on the couch in the Guard Office while you go back and take out any zombies that are in your way, and then return to collect her once the route is clear.

  11. Once you’ve managed to get Emily to the Security Manager’s Office safely, interact with the Star Quartz Puzzle Box to trigger another cutscene. You’ll then have to fight a group of zombies in the Isolation Ward while Emily stays in the office and tries to solve the puzzle. Once you’ve dispatched all the zombies, head back to the Security Manager’s Office. Emily has solved the Star Quartz Puzzle Box, but before you can get the item, an unwanted visitor appears and snatches Emily away, with Grace following them to save the little girl. That’s it for now – you’ll then move onto a Leon section before you pick up with Grace trying to rescue Emily underground later on.
