Meteorologist Sabrina Bates said storms could start firing off in the next few hours, bringing with them the risk of severe weather.Below is what the KOCO 5 First Alert Weather Team is expecting later in the day on Saturday and through the rest of the Memorial Day weekend. Saturday Storm RiskKOCO 5 Meteorologist Joseph Neubauer says we’ll see storms go up after 7 p.m. Saturday in central and northern Oklahoma, and we’ll be watching for storms in southwestern Oklahoma. A level 2 slight risk has been issued for the majority of the state, as only far northwestern and far southeastern Oklahoma are not covered by the level 2 risk zone. A level 1 marginal risk was issued for those areas. The severe weather risk poses a tornado threat, with the highest risk being in southwestern, central and northeastern Oklahoma. Joseph says the tornado index is 4 out of 10 for Altus, Hobart, Lawton, Ada, the OKC metro, Stillwater, Seminole and Tulsa. There’s also a lower tornado risk in surrounding areas stretching to northwestern, northern, northeastern and southern Oklahoma. Large hail also will be a threat Saturday evening, as stones could be the size of golf balls. Video Below: Oklahoma sees at least 1 tornado, large hail during early morning storms SaturdayRadar predictor shows storms going up very quickly into the evening hours, starting at 7-8 p.m. before the relative peak of the storms hits around midnight. By then, storms will be in southwestern Oklahoma near Elk City, Altus, Hobart and Lawton, the OKC metro, Enid, Perry, Stillwater and Tulsa. Joseph says those storms could rotate and drop large hail. The storms will then move into eastern Oklahoma and linger near Stillwater and Ponca City by 3 a.m. before moving into Arkansas by 6 a.m. Sunday. Sunday Storm RiskWe’ll get a break in the storm risk Sunday morning, but another wave of severe weather is expected later in the day. Joseph says more storms will go up in the afternoon, saying he doesn’t see this being another overnight event. Storms could begin as early as noon Sunday and continue into the evening. Sunday is one of our bigger rain chances, as much of the state has an 80 percent chance of seeing showers. A level 2 risk has been issued for much of the state, as everywhere south of Woodward, Alva, Ponca City and Bartlesville is covered by the risk zone. The tornado index is lower on Sunday, being 2 out of 10 – but that could increase as we get closer to the storms. Areas included in the tornado risk zone are Altus, Hobart, Lawton, Ardmore, Seminole and the OKC metro. Golf ball-sized hail is also possible with the severe weather risk on Sunday. Video Below: Power flashes spotted in Asher due to possible tornadoRadar predictor shows showers popping up around noon, with heavier storms developing in northeastern Oklahoma near Tulsa, Bartlesville and Vinita around 2 p.m. They’ll move south toward Stillwater, Shawnee, Henryetta, Seminole and the OKC metro by 5 p.m. Sunday. At the same time, storms are expected to develop in western Oklahoma near Elk City, Cheyenne and Clinton. Storms are shown to be throughout western, central and northern Oklahoma by 8 p.m. Heavier storms will move southeast into the OKC metro and into north-central and south-central Oklahoma by 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
