Welcome to June. It’s a new month, which means the major streaming services will be adding a significant number of movies this week. In case you missed some of last week’s top movies, be sure to check out two HBO Max movies: The Moment with Charli XCX and Miss You, Love You with Allison Janney and Andrew Rannells.
This week belongs to comedies and documentaries. Our No. 1 movie of the week is a charming rom-com with two extremely recognizable stars. Other noteworthy movies to keep an eye on are a comedy centered around the World Cup and a fascinating documentary about a Saturday Night Live icon. You can stream all five of these movies in the U.S.

Michael B. Jordan reinvigorates the Rocky franchise
Reinventing the Rocky franchise after six movies was as risky as it gets. We knew Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler were talented, but they hit a home run with Creed, a spin-off and continuation of the Rocky movies. Jordan plays Adonis «Donnie» Johnson, an aspiring boxer who happens to be the illegitimate son of the late Apollo Creed.

Office Romance is a Netflix comedy series centered on workplace relationships. Which setting is the show primarily built around?
That’s right! Office Romance leans into the familiar but endlessly entertaining world of corporate office life, where professional boundaries and personal feelings collide in comedic fashion. The workplace setting gives the show plenty of material for awkward meetings, watercooler moments, and romantic tension.
Not quite — Office Romance is set in a corporate office environment, not the other setting you chose. The show mines the everyday absurdities of office culture to fuel its romantic and comedic storylines, making cubicles and conference rooms the perfect backdrop for messy feelings.
Mexico 86 is a Netflix drama series. What real historical event serves as the backdrop for the story?
Correct! Mexico 86 uses the 1986 FIFA World Cup — famously hosted in Mexico — as its dramatic backdrop. The tournament is remembered for iconic moments like Diego Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ goal, and the series weaves personal and political drama into that electrifying sporting atmosphere.
Not quite. Mexico 86 is set against the backdrop of the 1986 FIFA World Cup, which Mexico hosted. That tournament is one of football’s most legendary, and the show uses its energy and stakes to frame a compelling human story rooted in that era.
Voicemails for Isabelle is a Netflix emotional drama. What central premise drives the story’s narrative?
Exactly right! Voicemails for Isabelle centers on the deeply emotional experience of grief, as someone listens back through voicemails left by a person they have lost. The format of preserved voice messages serves as a powerful storytelling device, capturing love and loss in an intimate and modern way.
That’s not the one. Voicemails for Isabelle is a grief-driven drama where the protagonist revisits voicemails from a deceased loved one. The show uses these audio memories as a poignant way to explore mourning, memory, and the traces people leave behind.
Little Brother is a Netflix family film arriving in June 2026. What is the core theme at the heart of the story?
Well done! Little Brother explores the rich and emotionally resonant territory of sibling relationships, focusing on brothers navigating their differences and ultimately finding connection. Family films on Netflix have increasingly leaned into authentic emotional storytelling, and Little Brother is no exception.
Close, but not quite. Little Brother is fundamentally about sibling bonding and the sometimes-complicated relationship between brothers. The film uses humor and heart to explore how family ties can be tested and strengthened at the same time.

Harlan Coben’s I Will Find You is a Netflix thriller series. Harlan Coben is known for a recurring theme in his adaptations. Which of the following best describes that signature theme?
Exactly! Harlan Coben has built an incredibly successful partnership with Netflix on the back of his signature formula: ordinary suburban characters whose carefully constructed lives suddenly unravel to reveal shocking secrets. Series like The Stranger, Safe, and Gone for Good all follow this gripping template.
Not quite. Harlan Coben’s Netflix adaptations are defined by their exploration of ordinary people hiding extraordinary secrets — suburban lives that look perfect on the surface but are riddled with buried pasts and dangerous lies. I Will Find You follows that same compelling blueprint.

It draws from a rich Latin American tradition of horror storytelling, giving it a distinctive cultural flavor.
That’s not quite right. I Am Frankelda is a dark comedy horror anthology aimed at kids and families, rooted in Latin American storytelling traditions. Its blend of creepy tales and humor puts it in the same fun-scary spirit as shows like Goosebumps or Over the Garden Wall.

Wanting to become a professional boxer, Donnie seeks help from his father’s friend, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). After some convincing, Rocky reluctantly agrees to become Donnie’s trainer. As Donnie climbs the ranks of the boxing world, he must support Rocky during his mentor’s fight outside the ring. It’s hard to argue that any movie other than Rocky sits at the top of the franchise. However, you can make a strong argument for Creed at No. 2.
Creed is now streaming on Netflix.

Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World)
The origins of the iconic band
Questlove is a man of many talents. Besides being a fantastic drummer and one of the founding members of The Roots, Questlove is an impressive documentary filmmaker. His 2021 movie, Summer of Soul (…or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
As a music aficionado, Questlove is the ideal director to helm Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World). The film explores the origins of Earth, Wind & Fire, one of the highest-selling groups of all time. Beyond its record sales, Earth, Wind & Fire inspired some of the greatest musicians ever, including Stevie Wonder and Prince. It’s a must-watch for music fans of all genres.
Earth, Wind & Fire (To Be Celestial vs. That’s the Weight of the World) premieres on June 7 on HBO Max.

Lorne
Get to know the SNL creator — sort of
If you know anything about Saturday Night Live, then you’ll recognize this name: Lorne Michaels. The SNL creator is one of the most enigmatic men in show business. He stays behind the scenes, and he rarely does press. All I know about Michaels is that every cast member does an impression of him, including Mike Myers. Dr. Evil’s voice is essentially an impression of Michaels.
Academy Award nominee Morgan Neville tries to find answers in Lorne, which chronicles Michaels’ origins and career. The documentary features exclusive SNL footage, which could warrant a documentary of its own. The film also includes a wealth of interviews with SNL royalty, including Dana Carvey, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Conan O’Brien, and Maya Rudolph.
Lorne premieres on Peacock on June 5.

México 86
The story of the World Cup in 1986
The 1986 World Cup is considered one of the best events in the tournament’s history. That was the World Cup where Diego Maradona and Argentina defeated West Germany to win it all. What many people don’t know is how Mexico became the first country to host the event multiple times.
México 86 puts a humorous spin on how Mexico landed the bid. The film is based on real circumstances, but many of the characters and events are fictionalized and dramatized. Diego Luna stars as Martín de la Torre, the bureaucrat who led the charge to bring the tournament to Mexico. This movie is perfect for those who may not like soccer because it’s more concerned with what happens off the pitch than on it.
México 86 premieres on Netflix on June 5.

Office Romance
The forbidden relationship
What’s better than a delightful rom-com to heal the soul? Jennifer Lopez is an underrated rom-com queen, having starred in hits like The Wedding Planner and Maid in Manhattan. I wouldn’t think of pairing Brett Goldstein with Lopez, but it actually makes a ton of sense when you hear the premise.
Jackie Cruz (Lopez) is the CEO of a prestigious airline. Daniel Blanchflower (Brett Goldstein) is the company’s new lawyer. These opposites attract, falling for one another and embarking on a secret affair. It’s the perfect movie to watch for a date night or a quiet weekend at home.
Office Romance streams on Netflix on June 5.
