Guirassy’s initial effort from the spot is well saved, but he remains calm with the rebound and tucks home for 2-0. Dortmund counter superbly through Guirassy and Brandt, before an initial shot falls to Adeyemi. His goal-bound shot is then blocked by the arm of Foyth, and the Villarreal captain is sent off after a VAR review. Good football from Villarreal eventually leads to Buchanan breaking into the box to shoot, but Svensson does well to get back and put in the block. Villarreal get the second half started. Kick-off! © Christof Koepsel Half-time © Christof Koepsel One minute will be added on. The Dortmund forward does brilliantly to get to the byline and pull the ball back. His cross is blocked by Júnior before Foyth clears. That was better from the hosts. After a challenge with Schlotterbeck, the Ivorian needs some treatment, but he is okay to continue. A good ball into the box is initially mishit before falling to Buchanan, who fires over the bar. Villarreal threaten to break through Oluwaseyi, but Schlotterbeck does superbly to get across and deal with the danger. The visitors win a free-kick on the edge of the box. A clever routine finds Gueye on the edge of the box, but he fires narrowly over with his left foot. © IMAGO/Herbertz / Nico Herbertz Pépé does brilliantly to open up space for Comesaña on the right. His cross finds Buchanan in a dangerous position inside the box, but his shot is mishit and goes out for a corner via a deflection. Dortmund win the ball on the edge of the Villarreal penalty area. Guirassy almost breaks through, but in the end, the ball is cleared to Sabitzer, whose shot is comfortable for the goalkeeper. The free-kick is cleared to Adeyemi, but he can’t connect with the loose ball correctly, and Villarreal have a goal kick. A series of fouls from both sides eventually leads to Nmecha winning a free-kick in a dangerous position. The hosts have had around 70% of the ball so far, but are yet to have an effort on goal. © Christof Koepsel But it won’t count. Good football sees Villarreal come forward down the right through Pépé before the ball finds its way to Partey in the centre. His shot is blocked, but rolls through to Buchanan, who finishes from close range from an offside position. A warning sign for the hosts. Dortmund have had much of the ball so far and have threatened to cause Villarreal problems, but we are yet to see any chances of note. Villarreal are sitting in and waiting for their moment to get forward. A long ball finds Svensson on the far side, but his attempted pass to Guirassy is cut out. That could have been dangerous. The ball is moving, and Dortmund start the game by winning a couple of corners that come to nothing. Promising. Kick-off! Not long now at all until we get underway. Ahead of tonight’s fixture, the youth teams of both clubs faced off in the UEFA Youth League. In the end, Villarreal came away with all three points thanks to an 88th-minute winner (2-1). The Dortmund men’s team will be hoping to show the kids how it’s done when this game gets underway in around 20 minutes. © Maja Hitij © IMAGO/Lucca Fundel Kobel – Anton, Anselmino, Schlotterbeck (c) – Couto, Sabitzer, Nmecha, Svensson – Adeyemi, Brandt – Guirassy Ostrzinski, Meyer, Bensebaini, Bellingham, Gross, Duranville, Chukwuemeka, Silva, Can, Ryerson, Campbell, Mane Júnior – Mouriño, Foyth (c), Veiga, Cardona – Comesaña, Gueye, Partey, Buchanan – Pépé, Oluwaseyi Tenas, Altimira, Marin, Solomon, Moleiro, G. Dortmund 3-3 Stuttgart – highlights
Welcome!
Niko Kovač’s side were beaten 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month, but that reverse has been the only blot on an otherwise impressive European campaign so far.
In fact, City and Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich – who triumphed 2-1 at the Allianz Arena on 18 October – are the only teams to defeat BVB so far this season.

Borussia plundered four goals themselves in each of their three other league-phase games, sharing the spoils in an eight-goal thriller with Juventus before securing comfortable victories over Athletic Club and Copenhagen on Matchdays 2 and 3.
Kovač is likely to be without defender Niklas Süle, whose toe injury is proving more complicated than initially expected. While fellow defender Ramy Bensebaini was struggling with a back problem, he recovered in time for the clash. Other than that, the 54-year-old is likely to have a full squad to choose from, with talented winger Julien Duranville also making a first-team squad for the first time this season following a shoulder injury.
Full-backs Yan Couto and Daniel Svensson and midfielder Marcel Sabitzer are among the players in line to be cycled back into the side. Germany forward Karim Adeyemi is also pushing for a start after scoring as a substitute in that game.
Watch: Kovač’s Dortmund flip tactical switch

Villarreal are in excellent domestic form themselves, having won each of their last three La Liga games to consolidate third place in the table behind leaders Real Madrid and current closest pursuers Barcelona.
European wins have proved much harder to come by, however. The Yellow Submarine have yet to claim their first victory of the Champions League league phase this season, drawing with Juventus but losing to Tottenham Hotspur, Man City and Cypriot outfit Pafos.

Head coach Marcelino and his players travel to the Signal Iduna Park without long-term absentees Pau Cabanes and Logan Costa, both of whom damaged knee ligaments during the summer. Willy Kambwala is also unlikely to return until the new year after tearing a thigh muscle in July.
Manor Solomon may miss out with a back problem, but Georges Mikautadze is closing in on a return to action following a muscle injury.
