The 2026 World Cup Round of 32 is underway, and the first two spots in the Round of 16 have been claimed.

Canada and Brazil are through after surviving their knockout openers, while South Africa and Japan became the first teams sent home from the expanded bracket.

The top two teams from each of the 12 groups advanced automatically, joined by the tournament’s eight best third-place finishers. Now the bracket has shifted from group-stage math to win-or-go-home matchups.
